Problems With Guillotine Paper Cutters?

Guillotine Blades

A myriad of problems exists with all the different papers, coatings and plastics and other materials that printers are trying to cut on paper cutters.

Polar cutters have to lead the way addressing these problems by educating their customers about the various techniques available.  A “Micro Bevel” is one that they recommend to their customers.  The micro bevel technique requires a conventional grinding and then polishing the primary bevel.

Accu-Grind of New England has worked with Heidelberg technicians, in the past, to help their customers achieve maximum performance and blade life between sharpening.

Another major problem in a lot of shops is the challenge of cutting coated paper.  There are a number of different coatings and thicknesses of the coatings that are difficult to deal with.  One such problem is the “straight line drip.”  This appears on the cut surface of the paper.  The main problem is that the inked sections of the paper are thicker than the white areas in between.  One quick fix is to use a “Magnetic Clamp Pad”.  Accu-Grind of New England stocks and sells magnetic clamp pads.  The other solution is to drop the clamp pressure a bit,  but not enough to start losing squareness of the cut.
